Chief Data Scientist

Dr. John Carlsson spearheads optimization innovation at BeyondTrucks, blending this role with his position as the Kellner Family Associate Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Southern California. His groundbreaking work in computational logistics, recognized with accolades in both academic and applied technology fields, underscores his expertise in addressing the very inefficiencies that BeyondTrucks aims to solve in the transportation sector.
Prior to BeyondTrucks, John established himself as a leading authority in transportation optimization, earning the DARPA Young Faculty Award and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator Prize for his pioneering research. Popular Science Magazine prominently featured him among their "Brilliant 10 of 2016," designating him as "The Man Who Re-routes the World Using Geometry" for his revolutionary approaches to logistics optimization problems.
John holds an AB in Mathematics and Music from Harvard University and a PhD in Computational Mathematics from Stanford University. His unique combination of academic rigor and practical application enables BeyondTrucks to develop proprietary algorithms that deliver measurable competitive advantages for complex transportation operations.
John’s favorite truck is a Peterbuilt.
